There were snow flurries when I left Missouri and they followed me into Oklahoma. (Ssshhhh, don't tell Mom or Jim, they would have worried too much if they knew!)
It could have been worse, so I'm not complaining.
First official night of this adventure was Thursday night, stayed in Tulsa, OK. Nothing special, just an over-night stay, with 3 hours of work Friday morning. Left the campground, filled up with gas and pulled into a parking lot to finish my workday, then off for another 3-4 hour drive.
Second night was Friday in Elk Creek, OK. Another quick over-night, a little bit of sleeping in, I but needed to get to Amarillo, TX by 1:00 pm. I have some horse riding to get to!
Cowgirls & Cowboys of the West Welcome to Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West
Los Cedros Ranch - rode to the Rim of Palo Duro Canyon, 2nd largest canyon in the US.
Saturday - we were bundled up, it was a little chilly, but it totally met all of my expectations!! A must do, if you are traveling this way.
My horse's name was Whiskey, what a cutie!! He was even kind enough to take a selfie with me after we got back to the ranch!!
Grabbed a little dinner and hit the road again.
Next stop - Albuquerque, NM, driving into another sunset...
My vote for the Best RV Campground yet - American RV Resort - RV Park In Albuquerque, New Mexico (americanrvpark.com)
Nice amenities, cement level slabs, all the hook ups. It got a little cold Saturday night. Apparently, my water hose was dripping all night and by Sunday morning, I had ice everywhere. Almost fell on my butt while unhooking everything!
Petrified Forest National Park - Basic Information - Petrified Forest National Park (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov) and the Painted Desert too! Amazingly beautiful!!
The Painted Desert is on the north side of Highway 40 and the south side you go through Blue Mesa (camera stinks, so no good pictures), then you hit the various portions of the Petrified Forest. Can you believe these trees are 225 million years old!?!?!?
Enough sightseeing for the day. One more drive into the sunset...
Flagstaff, AZ, for a quick dinner with Katie and Brian.
Bullhead City, AZ - it was pretty late, but my final destination until after the new year,
All the puppies love Aunt Cindy and Uncle Joe - they give out treats every morning!!
It's a dry heat, but it's a dry cold too! Brrrrrr....
Sounds like you're having a great time. I loved the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest too. I saw it as a kid and then again with Stan. We hit a blizzard in Albuquerque and couldn't make it to Flagstaff. We went south, then headed for the Grand Canyon a week later when the snow melted. You've taken some beautiful pictures. I forgot how gorgeous Missouri is. I hope the weather out west is good where you are. It's been an easy winter here so far. Keep those pictures coming.
Pam
I bet it was really cold in Flagstaff. I was there in early Oct one time and it was 22 deg. Loving the pictures
